C. McGee’s Deli is a family owned restaurant who’s mission is to provide the freshest sandwiches, salads, soups, and desserts to our customers while keeping prices as reasonable as possible. If you stop by you can expect a fun atmosphere in which the friendly staff knows regulars by name and cares about your breakfast or lunch experience. We have a variety of sandwiches ranging from the Ron’s Body Builder to the Heart Stopper so you are sure to find what you want, and if there is not an option that suits you feel free to build your own sandwich with any of the ingredients that we have! Come in enough and we might even name a sandwich after you :)
C. McGee’s Deli started in 1987 at 708 North First Street in the Itasca Building by a young couple with a simple dream- to be the Cheers of the deli business. (The young couple, Doug and Jane Oyen, are pictured at the right) The business grew with a lot of help from family, new found friends in the neighborhood and a great staff. We outgrew our space by 1996 and expanded to a second location at 800 North Washington. For awhile we ran both delis, but the addition of children to the Oyen family called for a simpler life and we decided to focus on the 800 location.
Our business thrived and we were yet again outgrowing our space.
Once again we began dreaming. What if we had a full kitchen and we could have great daily specials like Ahi Tuna, Flank Steak Sandwiches, Chicken Enchiladas and Cubans. The children could come on board and make great cookies- we could find a pastry chef to make wonderful pastries. So we were made a fabulous offer by a great landlord and we once again moved- this time to 901 North Third Street. We are a bit hidden away (we like to say you have to pass the IQ test to find us now) but still people came. We call ourselves the best kept secret in the warehouse district, but we hope you come and find us!
This year we will celebrate our 25 anniversary in the warehouse district- we love this neighborhood and are proud to have been here to watch all the wonderful changes.
We want to express a huge THANK YOU to everyone who has helped us over the years and extend a heartfelt invitation to come on in if you haven’t yet!
